Dellroy, Ohio…..

Another great Sporting Clays League season has come to an end at BTM Clays, with the final event being the league banquet at ABC Camp Grounds. With over 100 people attending owner Skeeter Richards supplied plenty of excellent food, plenty of beer, and a spirited awards ceremony.

This was the largest league in the history of BTM Clays. This 15th year of leagues fielded 50 teams with 370 shooters. With $12,000.00 in prize money up for grabs, some of the divisions were tightly contested while others were a bit of a runaway.

All divisions paid at least 3 places and 3 paying 4 places. Division winners are as follows:

Firebird Division with 6 teams was easily won by the Carroll County Fire Department team. Top-Gun was Jack Swinehart breaking 284.

Drake Division with 7 teams was also won easily by Pioneer Tree Farm. Top-Gun was Melvin Riggenbach busting 280.

Grouse Division had 6 teams and was won in a tightly contested race by Tipp's Trade. Top-Gun was Doug Zwahlen putting his shot on 296 targets.

Mallard Division , the largest division, with 8 teams was won by Camalot Labs. Top-Gun was Scott Williams with a 319.

Turkey Division, my personal favorite, even though my namesake team tanked, had 3 of the 6 teams fighting for top honors right up to the final day. Terry Diorio Trucking was the winner here edging out 2 other teams. Top-Gun was that slow shootin Dick Thiessen.

Snipe Division first place was ARK Tech with the other 4 teams within 4 targets of each other. Top-Gun was Mike Rummell using a Remington 870 PUMP.A tip of the hat from Ole Ferdie to this young fellar.

Pheasant Division was narrowly won by Baughman Machine with 7 teams competing. Top-Gun was Tim Blazer breaking a solid 326.

Quail Division was loaded with a plethora of Top-Guns. With the team monthly scores in excess of 210 and individual monthly scores between 46 and 50, pretty darn good clays shooting. Hicks Roofing was the top team here. Top-Gun was Bill Mayher smashing  373 of 400 targets. This guy shoots almost as good as yours truly, Ole Ferdie.

Now on to more important subjects, The Humanitarian Award, The Team
Member Award, and The #1 Sandbagger Award. These are hotly coveted awards that are vied for every season. With only a few making the final balloting, and some walking away dejected about not winning. Owner Skeeter Richards counted, recounted, and counted the votes again to be sure all was in order. Well for those of you that did not make the banquet here are the results.

Humanitarian Award    was won by 1 vote, yes 1 vote, and it was Sam Pake. I understand that this award was won because of an incident where a shooter was run over by a golf cart, and then run over a second time in reverse. The enchanting Lim Burress was runner up.

Team Member Award was also won by 1 vote, yes again 1 vote decided the winner. Smooth talking, mild mannered, never speaking ill of anyone, and always keeping his opinions to himself made Jack Repasky a winner here.

#1 SANBAGGER Award was a new category this year and believe it or not 1 vote was the deciding factor here also. The Carroll County Tomcat Joe Carlisle took honors in this most honored area. Apparently a WIDE margin in his reported scores from practice to official league score sheets was noticed. Coincidence, I think not.

So with this all reported…..with the leagues silent….with the guns of summer sounding at BTM Clays….remember…..Ole Ferdie is watching……..

    So until next time………….
